History

The Tampere Chamber of Commerce has a long and eventful history. When it was founded in May 1918, its operational area extended from the west coast, including the Pori and Rauma regions, all the way to Central Finland.

Key milestones of the Tampere CCI

The founding meeting of the Tampere CCI was initially scheduled for November 19, 1917, but was postponed due to low attendance. A follow-up meeting on November 29, 1917, led to the establishment of a chamber association to support commercial activities in Tampere region.

The association’s rules were confirmed on January 12, 1918, and the Chamber was officially founded on May 11, 1918, after multiple delays caused by a general strike and the Civil War battles in Tampere.

Initially, the Chamber’s jurisdiction was much broader, spanning from the west coast (Pori and Rauma) to Central Finland. Separate chambers were later established: Pori (now Satakunta) and Central Finland in 1930, and Rauma in 1981. Today, the Tampere CCI covers the Tampere region and the municipality of Kiikoinen in Satakunta.
